Volume 4 • No. 2

We’re in! We’re finally in and it was worth the wait. Every member had a smile on their face when they walked in the doors on that first day and I could tell they knew this would be something special. We’re using both classrooms and the flex space as our home for Power Hour. The staff has been doing a great job ensuring members work on their homework during this designated time and our 4th and 5th graders have been helping our younger members with simple math and spelling lists.

What we’re loving most about the Logan-Blake Unit is the openness of the building. If you walk in the doors around 3:15,  you’ll see controlled chaos. Members are eating their hot meal in the café, reading in the chill zone, playing video games and pool in the games room, being creative with manipulatives in the flex space, and dancing in the very back. Soon, we’ll have our playground installed which gives our members another space to move freely.

Logan-Blake is our home. We love it. We take care of it. And we’re reaching more children than we’ve been able to reach in the past. We have a team of staff members who are dedicated to these children and as Unit Director, I am grateful for this opportunity to serve my community.

Club Kid Spotlight

Meet Jyveese

During the summer and after school, Jyveese's parents were looking for a safe place for him to attend while they worked. With structured activities, games, and programs during the summer, then mentoring, help with homework, and even more activities after school, the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills was a great solution! His parents are glad he is getting help with his homework and that he is keeping his grades up.

Meet Miss Wanda
Wanda Ritter is an institution at the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills! She's been with the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills for over 17 years and knows all the parents and the young people, down to the cars that pick them up! Wanda says she loves the parents, the kids and the staff and we love her, too! Her favorite thing is to go shopping with her daughter, Deanna.
Sponsor A Child, Change a Life!
Many of our Club families need financial assistance to cover the cost of Club membership. YOUR gift of $1,179.97 (or $98/month) sponsors ONE child for the entire school year and summer. With this help, members gain access to:
  • Academic Support - At the Club, kids receive homework help and tutoring to put them on the path to excellence in the classroom and beyond!
  • Healthy Meals - Oftentimes, the meals kids receive at the Club - dinner during the school year; breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the summer - are the only hot meals they have all day.
  • Encouragement, Sense of Purpose - Club kids receive the nurturing and support that so many desperately need. Our trained youth development professionals offer educational assistance, formative guidance, and leadership skills necessary for kids to reach their full potential as productive, caring members of our community.

You can help change a life by Sponsoring A Child! Monthly options are available, too!

We have 48 Club kids who still need to be sponsored this year!
