This year's Youth of the Year event was very inspirational at the Baxter Teen Center. Every candidate brought a different perspective and energy to the virtual event and delivered inspiring speeches.

We have a number of programs that are picking back up, including UPS Road Code, Workforce Development, and FASFA Night. As teens take drivers education this summer, the UPS Road Code provides them with more driving safety tips and information. Workforce Development will allow high school students the opportunity to explore early career options that may not be familiar to them. FASFA night will help teens moving on to college to make a smooth transition. Our Club parents are key to helping us involve middle school and teen members with every opportunity at their disposal. These things are very important to our mission in continuing to grow the Boys & Girls Club.

Club Kid Spotlight
Meet Jasmine
Jasmine is thriving at the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills. For Jasmine, the Club provides an opportunity to grow as a leader. During Power Hour, she helps younger members with their homework. Jasmine enjoys helping where she can and aspires to be a positive role model for the younger students at our Logan-Blake Unit.

Staff Spotlight
Meet Mrs. Ronda
Ronda Scott is one of the friendly faces our Club kids see every day as they board the bus. She has worked at the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills since 2013 and loves listening to children as they share their lives with her. Ronda says she can relate to a lot of our young people. Growing up, her favorite activity was playing neighborhood football. Now, she is very involved with her church! How about a SHOUT OUT to Ronda and our bus drivers who get members safely from school to each Club every day.

Sponsor A Child, Change a Life!
Many of our Club families need financial assistance to cover the cost of Club membership. YOUR gift of $1,179.97 (or $98/month) sponsors ONE child for the entire school year and summer. With this help, members gain access to:
  • Academic Support - At the Club, kids receive homework help and tutoring to put them on the path to excellence in the classroom and beyond!
  • Healthy Meals - Oftentimes, the meals kids receive at the Club - dinner during the school year; breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the summer - are the only hot meals they have all day.
  • Encouragement, Sense of Purpose - Club kids receive the nurturing and support that so many desperately need. Our trained youth development professionals offer educational assistance, formative guidance, and leadership skills necessary for kids to reach their full potential as productive, caring members of our community.

You can help change a life by Sponsoring A Child! Monthly options are available, too!

We have 35 Club kids who still need to be sponsored this year!

What's Happening at The Club

Our Trinity and Logan-Blake Units held a mom & son date night. Dinner, dancing, and games were all part of a special evening, providing memories that will last a lifetime!

Helping others, overcoming obstacles, and gaining self-confidence were among the themes shared by Youth of the Year finalists at the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills’ 2022 Virtual Great Futures Celebration. Kanaiya Terry, Ja'Torian Medley, and Tamia McKinnon all had to meet certain criteria to be eligible for the Youth of the Year honor, including active involvement in the Club, academic success, and community service.
"The judges told us this was one of the hardest decisions they've ever had to make, and now we know why," Ke'Ziah Simpson said when announcing Tamia McKinnon as the 2022 Youth of the Year. Tamia said, “The Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills has molded me for success and given me the confidence to adapt to changes and new surroundings.” She wants to attend an HBCU and eventually receive a Doctorate in Pediatrics following her graduation from Pinecrest High School.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Trinity Unit in conjunction with the Moore County Chamber of Commerce.  We had a great turnout! After the ribbon was cut, our Club kids provided tours of the facility.

Thanks to Our Community!
Last March, the Junior League of Moore County installed a Little Free Library at the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills. Since then, they have donated hundreds of books as part of the Read-In Color Initiative.
