Unit Director Corner

Greetings! I wanted to, first of all, thank each of you for your constant support! Our Trunk or Treat event was a huge success! A big shout out to Moore Montessori and the haunted bus. It was a big hit! We were also invited to Magnolia Gardens to visit the residents and to trick or treat! So, we took about 25 kindergarten thru 1st graders. All treats & no tricks! We gave crafts that the children made from their hearts, and they gave us our favorite! Candy & Popcorn. Of course, we had to warm the resident's hearts with a song!

We have Jingle and Mingle coming up on Friday, December 9th! We'll have cocoa and cookies and all sorts of holiday treats. Look for sign-ups coming soon on our Facebook page.

Our team has started developing skits, dance, and step programs. I have a step team of about 20 girls from 2-5th grade. We are currently learning routines, and are also working on Christmas songs, poems, and skits!

Chris has already talked to our teens about the dangers of the internet and wants to start working with our members teaching them about computers, IT and, computer programing.
     What's Happening at The Club
Members at our Sandhills Community College Unit had a blast at DEFY in Fayetteville
October 14th. We love giving our young people new and exciting experiences!

We hit the gym in October and honored breast cancer survivors with our annual alumni versus staff hoops match-up. We had plenty of fun, shared a lot of laughs, and were all inspired by Ms. Phyllis Murphy and Ms. Dainielle Dancy who showed everyone what faith, hope, and courage are all about. Our halftime ceremony honored them and other survivors and those still fighting cancer.
Members from the Trinity Unit visited Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living Community, on October 27th. Our young people made candy corn and ghost crafts for the residents. The residents also had treats for the kids! It was a thoroughly meaningful and fun experience for all.
Each of our Units celebrated a safe Halloween with trunk or treat events. There was also a cake walk, haunted hall at the Southern Pines Center.
Logan-Blake and our SCC Unit had a haunted house along with their trunk or treat.
Everyone at the Trinity Unit dressed up. The kids played games and enjoyed trunk or treat with Moore Montessori.
All four of our Units celebrated Lights on Afterschool on October 20th. It's a national event showcasing out-of-school time activities taking place across the country. Each of our Clubhouses observed the occasion in different ways from a Hawaiian luau to connect four tournaments, face painting, dancing and singing circles, and lots of cupcakes and popcorn.
Many thanks to The First Horizon Foundation and First Horizon Bank and Advisors of Southern Pines for their support of The Boys & Girls of the Sandhills.
     Upcoming Events
Many of our Club families need financial assistance to cover the cost of Club membership. Your gift of $1,179.97 (or $98/month) sponsors ONE child for the entire school year and summer. With this help, members gain access to:
  • Academic Support - At the Club, kids receive homework help and tutoring to put them on the path to excellence in the classroom and beyond!
  • Healthy Meals - Oftentimes, the meals kids receive at the Club - dinner during the school year; breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the summer - are the only hot meals they have all day.
  • Encouragement, Sense of Purpose - Club kids receive the nurturing and support that so many desperately need. Our trained youth development professionals offer educational assistance, formative guidance, and leadership skills necessary for kids to reach their full potential as productive, caring members of our community.

You can help change a life by Sponsoring A Child! Monthly options are available, too!

A new school year means a new group of kids & teens walking through our doors.
We have 91 Club members who need sponsorship for the upcoming school year and summer.
