Happy New Year! 2022 was an exciting year for the Boys and Girls Club of the Sandhills, with the opening of our fourth location at Sandhills Community College and our participation in several great community events capped off by the Women’s US Open last June. 2023 is set to be an even more exciting year as we celebrate our 25th anniversary of inspiring young people in the community.  As an organization, we continue to do our best every year to keep kids safe and assist them in building successful futures. In 2023 we will continue to highlight the many achievements we have made and the difference we make in the lives of young people every day.

Meet Mr. Kevin!

Kevin Medley joined the BGCS staff last May and works with our teens at the Baxter Teen Center. He is always upbeat and ready to help wherever he is needed. Kevin loves interacting with the teens and enjoys picking up them up from school on the bus. He appreciates the structure That the Club offers and helping the kids out. Kevin likes to cook, cut hair and even train area professional boxers in the area!
     What's Happening at The Club
BGCS staff and volunteers came together after a devastating power outage struck Moore County to prepare 2-day meal packages. The packages included canned spaghetti, lasagna, fruit, juice, milk, snacks, and cereal. The meal packs were available to all members of the community as well as to their families.
Over the holidays The Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills at SCC enjoyed a gingerbread family night. The decorative cottages were a lot of fun to make and very tasty.
The Trinity Unit threw a mingle and jingle pajama Jammie jam with music, holiday goodies, and gifts for all the members!
Members from the Logan-Blake Unit brought some holiday cheer to Southern Pines Gracious Retirement Living last Friday! All the young people brought handmade crafts and seasonal goodies. Our young people enjoyed hanging out around the Christmas tree and having treats with the residents.
Our staff and Board of Directors shared a wonderful lunch on December 19th at Belle Meade. Members from the Trinity Unit shared a delightful performance, and Konni McMurry, Chair of our Board, was recognized for her dedication and service.

Community
Santa made an early stop at the Van Camp farm in December. The party was hosted by the staff of Van Camp & Van O'Linda. Members from Logan-Blake, SCC, and Trinity units enjoyed smores on the open fire, Christmas cookies, hot cocoa, seeing horses and donkeys, and all the animals that make farm life so much fun! The highlight of the afternoon for most was a visit with Santa and of course gifts.

We are so thankful to wonderful community partners like the Whispering Pines Thrift Shop who have supported great futures for many years.
The Women of Sacred Heart from Pinehurst stopped by to spread some holiday cheer. We are so thankful for their generous cash and gift donations for our teens.

Many of our Club families need financial assistance to cover the cost of Club membership. Your gift of $1,179.97 (or $98/month) sponsors ONE child for the entire school year and summer. With this help, members gain access to:
  • Academic Support - At the Club, kids receive homework help and tutoring to put them on the path to excellence in the classroom and beyond!
  • Healthy Meals - Oftentimes, the meals kids receive at the Club - dinner during the school year; breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the summer - are the only hot meals they have all day.
  • Encouragement, Sense of Purpose - Club kids receive the nurturing and support that so many desperately need. Our trained youth development professionals offer educational assistance, formative guidance, and leadership skills necessary for kids to reach their full potential as productive, caring members of our community.

You can help change a life by Sponsoring A Child! Monthly options are available, too!

A new school year means a new group of kids & teens walking through our doors.
We have 75 Club members who need sponsorship for the upcoming school year and summer.
