CEO Corner

Kids, teens, and their families need the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills now more than ever. The Club continues to partner with Moore County Schools and Team Green to provide meals for ALL youth in Moore County. This meal distribution is "such a blessing," according to a parent in the area who is receiving chemotherapy treatments and unable to go to a meal distribution site for meals for her 6 children. This woman said "please tell everyone we appreciate the volunteers and the hard work y'all are doing for families in need!!"

In addition, our staff have been working hard to meet the needs of our Club members with (virtual) open arms and kind hearts through virtual programming. We have also been sprucing up the Club with some fresh paint and lots of cleaning, so that we are ready to welcome Club members back when it is safe to do so.

We need your help to ensure that we are able to support our Club families when we are able to re-open our doors for kids. Consider a financial contribution today. Your gift will help relieve financial strain due to cancelled fundraising events as well as provide a safe place for kids and teens to go while parents work extra hours when the Club opens again. There are several community-driven fundraising efforts to benefit our Club that you can check out below, if you prefer to support our Club through one of those avenues.

Whatever it takes...

We are fortunate to live in a community that has stepped up in so many ways to help us ensure no child goes hungry during this crisis. You ARE making a difference in the lives of the kids in this community! Check out all of the incredible community-driven efforts below. A special thank you to all of the volunteers involved in these efforts as well as the volunteers who continue to support our meal distribution program at the Club!
LIGHT UP NATIONAL
Megan Rouse, a professional fundraising consultant and relatively new resident of Moore County, contacted us a few weeks ago to pitch the idea of Lighting Up National. For a small donation to support our Club, Megan agreed to deliver luminaries to those individuals, with instructions to light them at 7:45 pm this past Saturday. Her fundraising efforts raised over $15,000 for our Club! For more, check out the article by our friends over at The Pilot!

STEPPING UP TO STOMP OUT HUNGER
Lucille Casey is seeking sponsors to support her goal of walking 5 miles in her neighborhood. "To some that might not seem like a lot, but it is for me considering I'm 93," says Ms. Casey. She has already walked a total of 4 miles. It looks like she will far surpass her goal of 5 miles with 15 days left of her fundraiser!

All donations from sponsors will support the emergency food efforts of our Club. You can support Ms. Casey's fundraiser STEPPING UP TO STOMP OUT HUNGER by clicking here.
LIGHT UP MOORE COUNTY
Inspired by Megan's Light Up National campaign, the Junior League of Moore County is coming together to create their own campaign, Light Up Moore County, to support our Club. JLMC is matching the first $2,500 in donations!! If you'd like to Light Up your neighborhood, click here.
NEIGHBORS FEEDING NEIGHBORS
+ The STAY AWAY 5K
Neighbors Feeding Neighbors is a grass-roots effort started by our friends at Team Green, who put on the Reindeer Fun Run each December in support of our Club! The goal of Neighbors Feeding Neighbors is to distribute prepared meals (specifically dinners) from local restaurants and Sandhills Community College to families in immediate need during the COVID-19 crisis.

Penick Village Foundation and First Bank teamed up to host a Stay Away 5K to benefit their efforts. Runners were encouraged to run or walk a 5K any time between April 11-18. They raised over $5,700 to benefit Neighbors Feeding Neighbors! We are so grateful for all that this community is doing to support efforts to ensure no child goes hungry during this time.
